Define the load case

Record verified weight, dimensions, center of gravity, pick points, surface condition, temperature, and travel path. A rated capacity only applies under the manufacturer's stated conditions.

Account for attachment losses

Sling angles increase leg tension, magnets lose capacity across thin or uneven stock, and vacuum devices depend on seal quality and material porosity. Use the full load chart and derating instructions.

Keep people out of the consequence zone

Plan the lift so no person is under a suspended load or between the load and a fixed object. Inspect every component, control the load with suitable methods, and stop if the conditions differ from the plan.
